Illiteracy, literally means the inability to read and write. If stats are to be taken into consideration, according to the latest report, literacy rate is 74%. But it only means that 26% doesn't know how to either write or read or both. But issues in society is not due to illiteracy, is due to being not aware. They might be illiterate but they have their brains to think. We as citizens, the government as authorities get illiteracy as the escape goat to get away from the consequences of the incidents. One does not have to be under graduate or even be 12th pass, to know about the Indian laws. An awareness program can be conducted to educate them about the basic laws at the least.
There is another perspective to this, though vague but let's take a peak at it. Illiteracy leads to people not getting a job and if they may get the job, salary might not be enough to fulfill the basic needs an thus some of them tend to move to illicit ways thus causing the issue. This may go out of context, teach citizens, not only the illiterate but also to literate because they have qualified exams but they might not be educated.
Illiteracy isn't the problem not being aware is. Awareness programs, ads are helping in these to improve things. But being literate is important, clear at least the basic education and then pursue whichever stream you want to follow or even make one of your won.
