81. A sum of money becomes 2.5 times itself at 12.5% simple interest p.a. The period of investment is

Answer: 12 years

Explanation:

Let the period is 'T' and Sum= 'P'.
As given money become 2.5.
=> 2.5 * P = P + S.I
=> S.I = 1.5 * P -------------- (1)
=> S.I = (P * T * 12.5)/100 -----------(2)
By eq. (1) and (2)
=> 1.5 * P = (P * T * 12.5)/100
=> T=12 years.

82. Ajay, Vijay and Sanjay rent a pasture. Ajay puts 10 oxen for 7 months, Vijay puts 12 oxen for 5 months and Sanjay puts 15 oxen for 3 months for grazing. If the rent of the pasture is Rs. 175, how much must Sanjay pay as his share of rent?

Answer: Rs 45

Explanation:

Ajay : Vijay : Sanjay = 10 * 7 : 12 * 5 : 15 * 3
= 70 : 60 : 45 = 14 : 12 : 9.
So Sanjay's rent = Rs. (175 * 9/35) = Rs. 45.

83. In a fraction, if numerator is added by 2 and denominator by 1 it results 1, and if numerator added again by 4 and denominator by 2 it results 1/2. Find the fraction?

Answer: 8/9

Explanation:

Lets assume numerator=x and denominator=y.

So (x+2/y+1)=1 (by first condition)

=> x-y+1= 0 ------(1)

(x+6)/(y+3) = 1/2 (by second condition)

=> 2x+12= y+3 =>2x-y+9 = 0 ------(2)

By solving eq(1) and eq(2), we get x/y = 8/9.

84. If 12 box containers require 18 feet of wall space, how many feet of wall space will 30 box containers require?

Answer: 45

Explanation:

Lets assume 30 box containers require x feet wall.

Note: (u) means up arrow and (d) means down arrow.

container require space
-----------------------------
12 (d) 18 (d)
30 x

30/12 = x/18
=> x = 30/12 * 18
=> x = 45 feet.

86. Three sales people are paid commissions in proportion to the amount of their sales, which total $25000, $40000, and $60000 respectively. If a total of $20000 is allocated for these three commissions, what is the amount of the largest commission paid?

Answer: $9,600

Explanation:

The proportion of their commission = 25000:40000:60000
=> 5:8:12
So the largest commission =(12/25)*20000 = $9600.

87. Consider the word ROTOR. Whichever way you read it, from left to right or from right to left, you get the same word. Such a word is known as palindrome. Find the maximum possible number of 5-letter palindromes?

Answer: 17576

Explanation:

The first letter from the right can be chosen in 26 ways because there are 26 alphabets.
Having chosen this, the second letter can be chosen in 26 ways.
=> The first two letters can be chosen in 26*26=676 ways
Having chosen the first two letters, the third letter can be chosen in 26 ways.
=> All the three letters can be chosen in 676*26=17576 ways.
=> maximum possible number of five letter palindromes is 17576 because the fourth letter is the same as the second letter and the fifth letter is the same as the first letter.

88. City bus runs two bus from A to B each making 5 round trips in a day. There are no stops between. These buses ply back and forth on same route at diff. but uniform speed. Each bus start at 7 am from respective terminus. They meet for the first time at 7 km from A. Their next meeting is at distance of 4 km from B, while travelling in opposite direction. Assuming that time by buses at terminus is negligibly small, and cost of running a bus is 20 per km. Find daily cost of buses ?

Answer: Rs. 6800

Explanation:

Let's assume total distance travelled by both bus = x km
So as per question

First meet at 7 km from A.
By that time first bus travels 7 Km and second one travels x-7 Km. As they have travelled for the same time,

Second meeting is at 4 km from B:
By that time first bus travels (x+4) Km and second bus will travels x+(x-4) = (2x-4) km.
=> 7/(x+4) = (x-7)/(2x-4)
x^2 - 15x = 0 => x=17 km.
So one round trip = 2*17 = 34 km.
as given each bus make 5 round trips in a day.

so total distance cover by both buses = 34 * 2 *5 = 340 km.
Cost of travelling per bus = 340 * 20 = Rs. 6800.

89. In Arun's opinion, his weight is greater than 65 kg but less than 72 kg. His brother doest not agree with Arun and he thinks that Arun's weight is greater than 60 kg but less than 70 kg. His mother's view is that his weight cannot be greater than 68 kg. If all are them are correct in their estimation, what is the average of different probable weights of Arun?

Answer: 67 kg.

Explanation:

Let Arun's weight by X kg.
According to Arun, 65 < X < 72 -------(1)
According to Arun's brother, 60 < X < 70 ------ (2)
According to Arun's mother X <= 68 --------- (3)
The values satisfying all above 3 conditions are 66, 67 and 68.
so average = (66 + 67 + 68)/3 = 201/3 = 67 kg.
