1. A can do a piece of work in 14 days which B can do in 21 days. They begin together but 3 days before the completion of the work, A leaves off. The total number of days to complete the work is:

Answer: 10 1/5

Explanation:

A's 1 day work = \(\frac{1}{14}\)
B' 1 day work = \(\frac{1}{21}\)

A left 3 day before the completion of work.
B's 3 days' work = \(\frac{1}{21} \times 3 = \frac{1}{7}\)
Remaining work = \(1 \times \frac{1}{7} = \frac{6}{7}\)

(A + B)'s 1 day's work = \(\left(\frac{1}{14} + \frac{1}{21}\right) = \frac{5}{42}\)

Now, \(\frac{5}{42}\) work is done by A and B = 1 day.
or
whole work done by A&B = \(\frac{42}{5}\)
\(\frac{6}{7}\) part of work done by A and B = \(\frac{42}{5} \times \frac{6}{7} = \frac{36}{5}\) days.

Hence, total time taken = (3+36/5)days = \(10\frac{1}{5}\) days.

2. A vendor bought toffees at 6 for a rupee. How many for a rupee must he sell to gain 20%?

Answer: 5

Explanation:

C.P. of 6 toffees = Re. 1

3. In a certain company, 20% of the men and 40% of the women attended the annual company picnic. If 35% of all the employees are man, what percent of all the employees went to the picnic?

Answer: 33%

Explanation:

Lets assume that total 100 employees are in company.
out of that 35 are man and remaining 65 are women.
20% of man 35 = 20*35/100
40% of women = 40*65/100
total employees = 7+26 = 33 out of 100
=> 33 %

4. In seven given numbers,the average of first four numbers is 4 and that of last four numbers is also 4. If the average of these seven numbers is 3, the fourth number is?

Answer:

Explanation:

let 7 numbers are a,b,c,d,e,f,g.
given avg of first 4 nums are 4...i.e (a+b+c+d)/4=4
a+b+c+d=16
given avg of last 4 nums are also 4..i.e.(d+e+f+g)/4=4
d+e+f+g=16
e+f+g=16-d
given avg of 7 nums are 3....i.e (a+b+c+d+e+f+g)/7=3
a+b+c+d+e+f+g=21
16+16-d=21
d=32-21
d=11

6. In June a baseball team played 60 games and won 30% of them. After a phenomenal winning streak this team raised its average to 50%. How many games must the team have won in a row to attain this average?

Answer:

Explanation:

explanation: 60----18 wins (18/60)*100=30%.
for 50% they are winning games in row= ((18+x)/(60+x))*100=50%
by solving this we will get x= 24 games.
here x= no of winning games in a row

7. There are 3 boys and 4 girls. How many ways they are arranged such that boys should be always together ?

Answer:

Explanation:

By keeping 3 boys together (1) and arranging 4 girls with them
5! = 5*4*3*2*1 = 120ways. (i.e., 4+1 =5)
Possible arrangements of 3 boys in following ways
3! = 3*2*1 = 6ways
Now, arrange all with the boys together
120*6 = 720ways

9. Find the coordinates of the midpoint of the line segment joining the points A(-3,2) and B(7,8)

Answer:

Explanation:

mid point of two point
take two point a(x1,y1) and b(x2,y2)
so mid point is (x1+x2)/2 and (y1+y2)/2
so (-3+7)/2=4/2=2
and (2+8)/2=10/2=5
so mid point is (2,5)
