21. In a family, the father took 1/5 of the cake and he had 4 times as much as others had, then the family members are:

Answer:

Explanation:

let total cake is 1 and there are x no of member.
father took 1/5.
then others took=1 - (1/5)=4/5.
If we not consider the father then there are (x-1) member and each member took (4/5)/(x-1)=4/5(x-1)
now as father had 4 times then other,we can write the equation like this,
1/5 = 4*4/5(x-1)
or,1/5=16/5(x-1)
or,x-1=16
or,x=17
.'. Total no of member=17.

22. A man travels by bus for 20 hours and they by train for 05 hours . if the average speed of the bus was 20 kmph and that of the entire journey was 24 kmph. What was the average speed of the train?

Answer:

Explanation:

distance travelled in bus = d1
distance travelled in train = d2
speed of train = s2
Speed of bus = 20Kmph
average speed of journey = 24kmph

Avg speed = (d1 + d2) / (T1 + T2)
=> 24 = (20*20 + 5*s2) / (20 + 5)
=> 600 = 400 + 5*s2
=> s2 = speed of train = 40 kmph

Answer:

Explanation:

If speed of train is x kmph, then
Relative speed =(x-8 ) km/hr = (x-8)*5/18 m/sec

25. Three years ago , the average age of A, B and C was 27 years and that of B and C, 5 years ago was 20 years. A’s present age is :

Answer:

Explanation:

Sum of the present ages of A, B and C = (27 x 3 + 3 x 3) years = 90 years.
Sum of the present ages of B and C = (20 x 2 + 5 x 2) years = 50 years.
A's present age = (90 - 50) years = 40 years.

27. In an examination, 35% candidates failed in one subject and 42% failed in another subject while 15% failed in both subjects. If 2500 candidates appeared at the examination, how many passed in either subject but not in both ?

Answer:

Explanation:

Both fail=15%, Only fail in sub1=20% and
Only fail in subject 2=(42-15)%=27%
So only pass in subject 1=27% and
Only pass in subject 2= 20%
So (20+27)%=47% passed in either subject but not both
Now 100% =2500
So 47%=(2500/100) * 47=1175
