2) Urbanization: Due to increase in population and the need for more land area arises and as the cities expand they can do only until a certain amount of space so beyond that space they need to destroy forests for space. Also the need for furniture increases as population increases and as city expands which is obtained by destroying forests.

The cost of the land is increased and the need for housing also increased as population increased this space is created by destroying forests.
The Effects of Deforestration are:
1) Effects on Biodiversity: As the forest cover decreased there are many animals that depend on forests and many other creatures live in forest and if forests are decreased they do not have place to go hence die and some of them move to human habitat and create havoc. This leads to ecological imbalance.
2) Effects on local people: There are many local people who depend on the products obtained from forests for their livelihood. If these are destroyed it effects them directly they will loose their source of income and also it drives them to poverty.
3) Green house effect: Green house gases content on the surface of the earth increases that leads to heating up of the earths surface. Due to this same reason the surface of the earth is becoming hotter. This inturn leads to melting of the glaciers. Every year the temperatures are rising due to the same reason.
4) Soil erosin: Due to destruction of forests the top layer of soil which if fertile goes away. This land cannot be used for agriculture also since the fertile layer goes off . The soil becomes useless.
5) Air Pollution: Pollution levels increase as the number of trees decrease on the surface of the earth. Since trees absorb carbondioxide and release oxygen which is vital for survival of human beings it is very important to protect trees.
Since there are many serious effects due destruction of trees it is the responsibility of the people and the government to protect them. Bringing stringent laws to protect trees, planting trees to recover what is lost is the only way we can restore the forests and bring about ecological balance on our planet earth other wise our survival becomes difficult.
