It is said that "Water is life", it clearly means that life is impossible without the water. Water is a requirement of every living thing for their survival. Fresh potable water is present in very less quantity. It needs to be conserved by the techniques of rain water harvesting. But it is seen that unfortunately due to vigorous use and wastage of the fresh ground water it can be seen that water level is decreasing rapidly. The second biggest source of the fresh water is river but unfortunately due to unwanted human activities rivers not only in India but in whole world get polluted. Discharge of gutters directly in the rivers coming from industries and households results in contamination of unwanted materials in fresh river waters. If the rivers are not cleaned in proper time then a day will definitely come when all the rivers of the world will get converted into gutters. There are many ways to conserve water. Water can be conserved by using the concept of drip irrigation in the field of agriculture. Water used while brushing can be reused for flushing purpose. Closing of taps tightly when there is no need of the water can save million of liters of water daily. More and more trees plantation can be done to avoid the depreciation of the ground water because trees maintain the moisture content in the root and trees also avoids the fast flow of the rain water due to which water flow timing increases results in absorbing more water in the ground. By implementing the concept of the rain water harvesting by making tanks inside house will give a positive response in the water conservation. If water will not conserved as early as possible then in upcoming days whole world will face the problem of scarcity of the fresh water.
Government should try to take some effective measures to avoid the depreciation of the ground water. Gutters should not be discharge directly in the rivers. Water should be treated in the waste water treatment plants so that fresh water of the rivers does not get polluted. Rain water harvesting concept should be implemented by every single house so that more and more amount of rain water can be used and dependency on the ground water can be reduced. Afforestation should be enhanced to increase the ground water level and to maintain the moisture in the soil.
