Rivers and streams are bodies of fresh , flowing water. The water runs permanently or seasonally within a natural channel into another body of water such as a lake, sea or ocean. Rivers and streams are generally more oxygenated than lakes or ponds. Some rivers flow in oceans, as river flows over a years and years it can create a new path for itself. It can pickup soil material from one area and drop it in another area, creating a new route for it to follow.
At the mouth of many rivers a delta can form, a v shaped land is formed with streaming flow of river water and sea water waves. A delta is made of soil and debris that the river has washed down its entire route.
River are just a part of a bigger earth process known as the water cycle. All of the water that has ever existed or ever will exist is here on the earth today. the same water that your favorite dinosaur drank might be the water you drink lately today. Some of the earths water is frozen, some of it is in a gaseous form(water vapor) and then some is liquid. Water can be in any of these forms here upon the earth. Some water is even part of living things. It is in your food, and its even in the air. This water goes through a constant cycle of movement which cleans redistributes and stores it for later use.
The water cycle consists of three basic parts: evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Evaporation is the water evaporates through sun's heat into the atmosphere, when cools from clouds called condensation like white fluffy marshmallows are formed, but they are just a collection of tiny water droplets. If the air is cold enough, they might fall as snow, warm enough and they will fall as rain. Much falls over mountains areas and collects as snow-caps or glaciers. When these begin to melt in the spring, we have rivers. The rivers flow to a lake or an ocean and the cycle starts all over again. So there is way less wastage of fresh water until the cycle continues.
though the fresh water bodies aren't available to all the beings on earth some depend on carrying fresh water for days to their homes. eventually man developed mechanisms and ways to store rain water, retaining water from rivers by constructions of reservoir for accumulation and storage of water, producing energy and electricity , and controlling and monitoring floods while major rainfalls. This is the new way of helping the farmers and other areas where water sources are less.
Until rainfall and snowfall hits earth on time, until mountains have trees, greenery as much as possible, trees on earth , then on time water being stored in rivers , lakes, mountains . and monitoring the water usage will make less wastage. But it comes with certain measures. Not closing the water bodies because of greed of humans, many are vanishing. which leads to floods and droughts.
