A man can row a distance of 5 km in 60 min with the help of the tide. The direction of the tide reverses with the same speed. Now he travels a further 20 km in 10 hours. How much time he would have saved if the direction of tide has not changed?

A5 hrs

B6 hrs

C12 hrs

DNone of these

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

man row 5 km in 60 min (1hr)
=> 5=(u+v)*1 ---------(1)
Further 20 km in 10 hrs.
=> 20=(u-v)*10 -------(2)
By solving eq. (1) & (2)
u=7/2
v=3/2
Therfore,
=> 20=(u+v)*t
=> 20=(3/2 + 7/2)*t => t=4hr
Hence, time saved = 6 hr.

A boatman goes 2 km against the current of the stream in 1 hour and goes 1 km along the current in 10 minutes. How long will it take to go 5 km in stationary water?

A40 minutes

B1 hour.

C1 hr 30 min.

D1 hr 15 min D.

Answer: Option D

Explanation:

upstream speed = 2km/h
downstream speed = 6km/h
speed in still water = 1/2(6+2) = 4km/h
so to cover 5 km 75 minutes or 1h15m requires.

In a stream running at 2 kmph,a motar boat goes 6 km upstream and back again to the starting point in 33 minutes. Find the speed of the motarboat in still water.

A24 km/hr

B22 km/hr

C21 km/hr

DNone of these

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

Lets assume speed of boat in still water = x km/hr
So boat downstream speed = (x+2) km/hr.
boat upstream speed = (x-2) km/hr.

6/(x-2)+6/(x+2)=33/60 => 6/(x-2)+6/(x+2)=11/20
=> 120*[(x-2) + (x+2)] = 11*x^2 -44
=> 240 x = 11*x^2-44
=> 11* x^2 -240x -44 = 0 ---------(1)
By solving eq. (1)
x = 22 km/hr.

a) A boat travels 300m up stream in 15 minutes
b)Its speed down stream is 8/5 times its speed upstream
Which of the options provide the correct realationship between speed of current and speed of

ASpeed of current=12/10 times of speed of boat

BSpeed of current=3/13 times of speed of boat

CSpeed of current=11/10 times of speed of boat

DSpeed of current=9/13 times of speed of boat

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

In 15 mins boat travels 300 mtr
So, in 60 mins=(300*4)=1200mtr
So, (u-v)=1200
Thus we get (u+v)=1920
Sloving this two equation we get u=1560 and v=360
Now (v:u)=360:1560=3:13

The speed of a boat in still water is 10 km/hr. The stream has a current of 2km/hr. The boat takes 2 hours more to cover a trip from A to B than it took to go from B to A. What is the distance between A and B?

A30 km

B16 km

C48 km

D40 km

E32 km

Answer: Option C

Explanation:

Speed of boat=10,speed of stream=2,time=2 hr
Let distance be x
(x/(10-2))-(x/(10+2))=2
x/8-x/12=2
x=48 km
