311. 2 workers, one young and one old, live together and work at the same office. It takes 20 minutes for the young man to walk to office. The old man takes 30 minutes for the same distance. When will the young man catch up with the old man if the old man starts at 10:00 a.m. and the young man start 10:05 a.m.?

View Answer | Submit Your Solution | Important Formulas | Topic: Time and Work | Asked In |

Answer: Option D

Explanation:

Time ratio is 3:2, so
3 min for old = 2 min fro young
1 min for old = 2/3 min fro young
Now we will take multiple of 3 both side,
3 min for old = 2 min fro young
6 min for old = 4 min fro young
9 min for old = 6 min fro young
12 min for old = 8 min fro young
15 min for old = 10 min fro young and so on
Now the difference of time to start for old and young is 5 min. So when they meet then old will take 5 minute more than young ( or their time difference should be 5 min) which is given by only
15 min for old = 10 min fro young
So at 10:15 for old and for young it is 10:05 + 10 min = 10:15

315. Oranges can be packed in sets of 10 oranges in box type A or 25 orange in box type B. A carton comprising of 1000 oranges of type A and type B boxes is packed. How many different combinations are possible in the number of type A and type B boxes while organizing the oranges?

View Answer | Submit Your Solution | Important Formulas | Topic: Permutations & Combinations | Asked In |

Answer: Option A

Explanation:

The expression will be 10x+25y=1000 ----------(1)
The exp (1) satisfied only with multiples of 2 up to 38.
so no. of combinations are 19.
if oranges are packed in type A boxes only= 1 way
if oranges are packed in type B boxes only= 1 way
Hence total = 19+1+1 = 21

317. A,B ,C can do some work in 36 days. A and B together do twice as much work as C can do alone, and A and C together can do thrice as much work as B alone can do. Find the time taken by C to do whole work?

View Answer | Submit Your Solution | Important Formulas | Topic: Time and Work | Asked In |

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

Given A, B and C can do some work = 36 days.

=> (A+B+C) can do work in 1 day = 1/36
=> (A+B+C) = 1/36 -----------------(i)
Given (A+B) = 2C ----------------(ii)

From eq. (i)and(ii)
3C = 1/36
C = 1/108

=> C takes 108 days to complete whole work alone.
